The Lockheed L-188 Electra is a historic aircraft that was a turboprop airliner produced by Lockheed Corporation in the 1950s. It was one of the first turboprop-powered aircraft to enter commercial service. The Electra had a distinctive design with four engines mounted on the wings, and it offered a faster and more comfortable flying experience compared to piston-engine aircraft of its time.

However, it is important to note that the Electra was involved in a series of high-profile accidents, most notably the crash of Eastern Air Lines Flight 401 in 1972. These incidents raised concerns about the safety of the aircraft, leading to modifications and improvements in the design. Ultimately, the Electra was overshadowed by jet-powered aircraft and phased out of commercial service in the late 1970s.
